Each year, performing arts trips are offered to the students of the studio. Some tours are one night in length, while others last as many as eight nights. Below are descriptions and photographs from some of our past excursions:
New York City
The Kevin Jones Performing Arts Studio embarked on a theater trip to New York City from July 11-16, 2018. This was the first KJPAS trip where we flew up to NYC (Yea, Spirit Airlines!). It was terrific to be in NYC in under two hours! Highlights of the trip included seeing
Come From Away, Mean Girls and Spongebob the Musical. We toured a Broadway wig shop where the kids got some hands on experience building a wig. We visited lesser known museums like the City Museum of New York and the Transit Museum, and walked up to 11 miles a day as we travelled up and down Manhattan, and through Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn (including walking back into Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge). We had several exciting Broadway encounters with theater professionals including Amy Justman (Carousel), John Bolton (Anastasia), Milton Granger (musical director), and Alex Bender (Bandstand). Our goal was to show the kids New York City through the eyes of a local, and take them to places that they would never go to on a school trip or family vacation. Verdict? Success!

New York City
The Kevin Jones Performing Arts Studio embarked on a theater trip to New York City from August 7-12, 2013. The theme of this year's trip was "Off The Beaten Subway Track", taking the students to sites that they would not normally go to with another school trip or on a family vacation. From dinner in Spanish Harlem to visiting lesser known museums such as the Frick and the City Museum of New York, to a private tour of a Broadway Wig shop, KJPAS students were immersed in "the real New York". We also took in a Yankees game (sitting with Broadway pit musician, Alex Bender), went to see four shows (Newsies, Peter and the Starcatcher, The Potted Potter, and
How To Be A New Yorker), and sang at a Karaoke bar in midtown! Highlights included meeting up with (and dining or going to the park with) many Broadway actors, including Michael Fatica (the dance captain for
Newsies), Amy Justman (Company, White Christmas, Passion and the national tour of
Phantom of the Opera), Thom Warren (The Lion King), and Emily Behny ("Belle" in the national tour of
Beauty and the Beast, and "Nessarose" in Wicked).

Stratford Theatre Festival of Canada, plus Toronto and Niagara Falls
In July of 2006, we ventured all the way up to Canada to visit the Stratford Theatre Festival, the leading Shakespearean theatre festival in North America. With an annual budget of 56 million dollars, we were certainly impressed! We saw four shows:
South Pacific, Oliver, Much Ado About Nothing, and
London Assurance. We met with leading actors Cynthia Dale, Ted Baerg, Brian Bedford, Colm Feore, and Scott Beaudin, 16-year-old television actor Marc McMulkin, and with Bert Carriere, the musical director and composer for the entire Stratford Festival. We were given a backstage tour of the Festival Theatre and also of the Festival Costume Warehouse. In Toronto we saw the world premier of the musical
Lord of the Rings, and toured the Rogers Center (the only stadium in the world with a retractable roof), and went up the CN Tower (the skypod at 145 stories is the tallest observation deck in the world!). On the way home we stopped for a day to visit one of the seven natural wonders of the world, Niagara Falls. We even took the Maid of the Mist boat ride to the base of the falls!
